Product Description:
Flame Control No. 149 is a highly
flexible, weather resistant,
intumescent fire retardant paint.
When attacked by fire or high heat,
the coating intumesces (puffs up),
forming a thick, dense foam fire
barrier. This foam barrier retards heat
penetration and checks the spread of
flame.
RECOMMENDED USES:
This product was primarily designed
for use on wood or metal crating and
containers used for the storage,
transportation, and disposal of highly
hazardous substances, such as
radioactive materials, nuclear waste,
poisonous gas cylinders, and other
hazardous items requiring maximum
fire protection.
USED BY:
Schools, Colleges, Nursing Homes,
Child Care Centers, Hospitals, Penal
Institutions, Apartments, Hotels,
Factories, Warehouses, Retail Stores,

SURFACE PREPARATION:
Surface preparation should be carried
out according to good painting
practices. All dirt, grease, oil, wax,
rust, and other foreign matter must be
removed.
New Surfaces:
New wood, fiberboard, and other
surfaces having uneven or excessive
porosity, should be sealed with an
acrylic sealer or equivalent and
allowed to dry a minimum of 6 hours,
before applying No. 149. New metal
surfaces must be primed. Apply
Flame Control No. 3004-A Universal
Primer or Flame Control No. 3005-A
Two Component Epoxy Primer.
Allow to dry 16 hours or until hard,
before applying No. 149.
Previously Painted Surfaces:
No. 149 may be applied directly to
most existing paints that are tightly
adherent, and in good condition. However, we recommend spot testing
for lifting. If lifting occurs, remove
old coating and treat as new surface.
All glossy surfaces should be dulled
with sandpaper. Spot prime where
necessary with appropriate Flame
Control primers as shown above,
before applying No. 149.
APPLICATION:
Flame Control No. 149 is ready to use.
It can be applied by brush, roller or
conventional heavy-duty spray
equipment. Stir thoroughly and apply,
using a full-bodied coat. If thinning is
required, use only No. 149 Special
Reducer.
Do not apply in temperature below
50°F (10°C).
