BURN BARRIER™ Mastic No. 77 Product Description?
BURN BARRIER™ Mastic No. 77 is a water base fire retardant coating, compounded from
proprietary fire retardant resins, chemicals, and nonasbestos reinforcing fibers. It has been
designed for use on grouped electrical cables and their supporting trays. No. 77 prevents the
propagation of fire along the cable surfaces, and greatly increases the fire endurance time of
supporting trays. No. 77 contains nonflammable solvents, and therefore, presents no fire hazard
while being applied. However, due care must be exercised when applying No. 77, as it is a
conductor of electricity while wet. See caution section.

Surface Preparation:
All dirt, oil, grease, and other foreign matter must be removed. Mask off surfaces not
designated for coating. All overspray should be cleaned up immediately.
BURN BARRIER™ Mastic No. 77 Application?
It can be applied by brush or spray; however, spray application is recommended, as a more
uniform coverage can be obtained. Spraying should be done by heavy duty conventional or
airless spray equipment, to achieve a minimum wet film thickness of 5/64 inch (78 mils (1.98
mm)]. Dry film thickness 44 mile (1.1 mm). Grams/m = 2858.
Drying Time:
Dries by water evaporation. Under normal atmospheric conditions, a 5/64 inch coating will dry
to touch within 2 hours, hard dry in 24 hours. It continues to cure to a very tough film that is
resistant to deterioration from flaking, impact, vibration, and temperature changes. Will not dust,
flake or spill.
Coverage: BURN BARRIER™ Mastic No. 77, when applied at 5/64 inch wet film thickness, will cover approximately 20.5 square feet of surface area.
Maintenance: Repairs can be made with brush, putty knife or trowel.
Thinning and Equipment Clean-up: Thinning is not recommended. For equipment clean-up, use water only.
Color: Off White. Special colors made to order.
NOTE:
BURN BARRIER™ Mastic must be protected from freezing at all times, and should be stored at temperatures between 40-95F.
